Lido Finance, one of the largest staking protocols on Ethereum, announced that a private key belonging to Chorus One, which operates in its oracle infrastructure, was leaked. Following the development, Lido DAO announced that it will initiate an emergency voting process to replace the relevant oracle node. The protocol’s official statement stated that despite the security threat, Lido’s operation continued uninterrupted and user funds were safe. Lido’s oracle system has a multisig structure that requires signatures from 5 out of 9 participants. No security breaches were detected in the eight oracle nodes other than Chorus One. The oracle system in question is responsible for transferring data from Ethereum’s consensus layer to smart contracts. This information includes validators’ earnings and possible penalties. According to the evaluation, it was stated that even if the entire oracle system was compromised, there would be no significant damage other than a limited deviation in the stETH value, thanks to the security limits of the system.
